Jones: Budget shortfall beyond county's control
Regarding District #2, I just checked with the elections office in DeKalb and they are conducting a recount of the BOE results tomorrow, Nov 13. Don McChesney and Marshall Orson are less than 130 votes apart for a chance to be in the Dec. 2 run-off.

Are You Ready for Your $1 Billion Vote?
I have never previously endorsed a candidate publicly in any race - that's how seriously I take my decision to support yours and Marshall Orson's campaigns. The Candidates Forum was an indispensable event to help me make my decision. Because I feel the BOE races for District #2 and #9 are critical for the future of DCSS and of DeKalb County, I am challenging all my neighbors to get to know the candidates and make their own decisions. As outlined above, my support is squarely behind you in District #9. Please feel free to publish editorials and position statements here to help voters understand your frame of reference and goals. If you choose to use this forum for this purpose, I would offer the following question regarding District #2: As a Board Member, what tactics or tools would you employ to reach out to what I call DCSS' "latent" constituents? For example, in my own Cross Keys High School cluster there are large numbers of parents of young children, retirees, and empty-nesters who do not have kids in the system yet pay for it. In terms of speaking to parents in District #2, do you see it as your job to advocate for these parents as well as those with enrolled children? Why? Any comments or new postings you can offer would be appreciated by the readers. Thanks for standing for office on behalf of our community.

Thanks for the endorsement! I've been asked by former superintendents and school board members to serve on various county wide education committees. When this diverse group of citizens gathered, I was asked to serve in leadership positions. I'd like to believe they understood I could be objective while having the best interests for the entire community. For those would like to know more about me and my background, please visit my website at www.ernestbrown4us.com. I promised my family I would not spend more money on the campaign than I could raise. This is indicative as to how I would use your money on the school system budget.

30319 is my zip north of the river (I-85). 30329? And so it should be for Executive Park! And so it is now - thanks for the suggestion!

AJC is reporting that Decatur had to move their Facebook site because "it's not a person." See details: http://www.ajc.com/services/content/metro/dekalb/stories/2008/09/25/decatur_facebook_page.html?cxtype=rss&cxsvc=7&cxcat=13

Decatur moves into Facebook world
It seems that the track record along North Druid Hills has been abysmal. No less than 5 projects have been started with 0 completions. Walgreens, the Synagogue, Simsbury Infill, Berkeley Oaks Infill, and Williamsburg. How the county can consider another developer doing a 9 acre scrapeoff is astounding. Conspiracy theorists need to chime in here!!! They have recently presented their proposal for creating a "Town Center" in the Toco Hill/Williamsburg area. This could be good in that the area is a known runoff disaster and couldn't get much worse. It should also provide cover in rejecting further attempts to turn all of North Druid Hills and Clairmont into another Buford Highway!!!

Meeting with Commissioners on Toco Hills area redevelopment
22 acres? How about the next great urban park, and recreational facility with a smattering of multi-purpose public building? DeKalb is not full of big sized parks as it is and we’re about to “lose” Brookrun to Dunwoody. Cost? Sure, it would be high but it would also be a generational bequest of a priceless nature.
