For the community's reference, I have posted the slides used by the U. S. Department of Education team at a recent presentation at Agnes Scott. The subject of the event was the $4b in grants from the federal government known as School Improvement Grants (SIG).
This is the high profile initiative of the Obama administration targeting the worst performing schools in the country. You may have seen the recent headlines about a school in Connecticutt where the entire faculty was fired and 50 % of them will be rehired. I believe this was the first application of some of the provisions of this initiative.
Based on comments made by a Georgia Dept of Education official who was at the presentation, it is not likely that any of these grant funds would be coming to DeKalb County schools. He explained that there are so many schools in rural Georgia that are doing so poorly that they would likely go through any monies allocated to Georgia.
